Glossary of hosting terms

Meta tags (or meta tags) are special tags beginning with the word “META”, between them, as a rule, they place keywords intended mainly for search engines or other relevant information. Meta tags are used to correctly represent the site for search engines. 

A packet is a unit of information that is transmitted over a network. When a file is transmitted over the network, it is sent as a set of packets. The packet, in turn, consists of a set of bits. A block of such data contains a header, inside which the control information is contained, the recipient’s address, the sender’s address, the full packet size, data for identifying and correcting errors, and the message body itself. 

Site visit (site session, session on site)- This is when any one of the users at a certain period of time dials the same address. Each request during is stored in log files on the server. A regular session is completed if within at least thirty minutes no at least one server request has been received from the visitor . 

Proxy server (Proxy server) – a special Internet server that receives requests from users. Selective work of the proxy server does not allow unknown users to the internal network, and also blocks access by methods not authorized by the administrator. 

Protocol (protocol) – a set of rules that defines the image and all procedures for the exchange of information. Differently, this is a description of how computers should interact with each other.

Screen resolution (Screen resolution) – the size of the monitor in width and height, measured in pixels. The most common and popular today are the following resolutions: 1024 * 768, 1024 * 960, 1280 * 1024. 

Register and check domain – entering information about the name in the common database. The purpose of registration is to ensure the uniqueness of the domain. Another goal is to obtain the rights to administer the domain entered into the database. The domain registration service is considered to be perfect from the moment the information is entered into the database. Domain registration is valid, as a rule, for one year. 

Server– a powerful modern computer, whose resources are used by many users. The server provides constant access to shared resources, such as sites .
